About Our Leadership

Band Director: Kyle Ferland

I’ll be completing my ninth year in the 2026-27 band season as Director of Bands at Winter Springs High School. Previously, I taught at Crystal River High School, Deltona Middle School, and most recently Wekiva High School in Apopka, FL.

I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Stetson University and a Master’s Degree in Music Education from Florida State University. From 2002-2004, I was a member of the Magic of Orlando Drum and Bugle Corps. In 2005, I joined the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps for my age out year.

I am currently a member of the Florida Bandmaster’s Association, Florida Music Educator’s Association, National Association for Music Education, and National Band Association. I am also a proud member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America. I remain an active performer with the Southern Winds Ensemble.

I’m honored and excited to continue the tradition of excellence established by the Winter Springs High School band program. To make things even better, I’m thrilled to work alongside with my wife, Kara Ferland, who has been the (awesome) chorus teacher at Winter Springs High School for her entire career.

Outside of teaching and playing music, I enjoy road cycling, playing basketball, and spending time with my wife Kara, my adorable daughter Mckenzie Joy, and my dog Rachmaninoff (Rachy).

Visual Coordinator & Drill Designer: Tim Gallagher

I’ve been a teacher at Winter Springs High School for the past 21 years, where I currently teach AP Computer Science and Pre-Calculus. I’ve been a drill designer for numerous high schools throughout Florida for over 27 years.  I’ve also worked with Drum and Bugle Corps and college marching bands.

I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Miami, and a Masters degree in Secondary Mathematics Education from the University of Central Florida. I am also currently a member of the Central States Judges Association, adjudicating at marching band festivals throughout the Southeastern US each marching band season.

Pamela Locklear - Pure Gold Color Guard Coach

I’ve been involved in color guard since 2012. Some of my favorite pieces of equipment include the flag and the sabre.

After high school marching band, my independent color guard career was spent with Reverie Independent out of Marietta, GA, starting in 2017. It came to a close after competing in the WGI Finals in 2022.

I’ve always had an interest in things athletic and creative but color guard merged those interests. The athletic aspects of softball, soccer, and volleyball, combined with a love for music from being in choir classes, learning how to play instruments, and the freedom of expression through dance, fostered a passion for the sport.

When not teaching or conducting private lessons, I enjoy being outdoors, roller skating, and playing the ukulele or acoustic/bass guitar.

I moved to Florida in 2022 to be closer to family and to experience spinning in a new place with a different style. I am ecstatic to be on staff with Winter Springs High School as the Color Guard Director!
